The history of Reiki
Reiki is believed to have its origins in Eastern spiritual traditions (India/Tibet) when it was a regular part of daily life, but over time became lost.
It was re-discovered in the 1920’s by a Japanese scholar, Dr Mikao Usui. He spent many years travelling and researching ancient texts. Eventually he returned to Japan and entered a Zen Buddhist monastery where he studied Sanskrit documents and meditation. He gradually gained insight into the healing process, receiving symbols and ways of activating the healing energy.
He subsequently travelled across japan, lecturing, healing and initiating a number of masters, one of whom, Hawayo Takata, was responsible for introducing Reiki to the West.
Healing
As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, so Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary.
