Reiki Practitioner Totnes

I am a Reiki Practitioner in Totnes also offering Reiki I, II and III training.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the knowledge that a life force energy flows through us which is enhanced during a treatment and can result in amazing changes.

It treats the whole person – mind, body and spirit – creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace and security, wellbeing.

The treatment I offer is very simple. You remain fully clothed and can relax in a safe, peaceful environment as I gently place my hands along the body non-intrusively or “hands off”.

The benefits of a Reiki treatment

As the life force energy is activated, the brainwave patterns automatically slow down as in mediation, promoting natural healing.

Reiki helps reduce stress and anxiety, whilst promoting inner calm and serenity. Mind and body are brought into a state of deep relaxation. Many people remark on the depth and quality of the relaxing they experience and afterwards report a wonderful feeling of well-being.

A one-off Reiki treatment is beneficial. As the affects are cumulative a course of  treatment produces even more positive changes on all levels.

Reiki – what is it?

Reiki is a Japanese word pronounced ‘Ray-key’ which means universal life energy. This is the vital energy around and within all living things.

It is a gentle, holistic, non-invasive method of hands on healing (equally effective working above the body) whose origins reach back over thousands of years.

How does Reiki work?

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn how to do it. The only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

Reiki works on physical, mental, spiritual and emotional levels. Illness is seen to be an imbalance in 1 or more of these 4 levels and Reiki has the ability to restore balance and wholeness.

The history of Reiki

Reiki is believed to have its origins in Eastern spiritual traditions (India/Tibet) when it was a regular part of daily life, but over time became lost.

It was re-discovered in the 1920’s by a Japanese scholar, Dr Mikao Usui. He spent many years travelling and researching ancient texts. Eventually he returned to Japan and entered a Zen Buddhist monastery where he studied Sanskrit documents and meditation. He gradually gained insight into the healing process, receiving symbols and ways of activating the healing energy.

He subsequently travelled across japan, lecturing, healing and initiating a number of masters, one of whom, Hawayo Takata, was responsible for introducing Reiki to the West.

As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, so Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary.
