Hypnotherapy Totnes

I practice clinical hypnotherapy in Totnes. This very powerful therapeutic process is wonderfully relaxing. In a peaceful state, the conscious mind is less active, allowing beneficial suggestions to be given directly to your unconscious mind. This is referred to as a trance state, the state in which hypnosis takes place. Somewhere between waking and sleep. Day dreaming, reading, walking, driving a familiar route etc all access this trance state, which is familiar and comfortable.

What can Hypnotherapy do for you?

Hypnotherapy works with the unconscious, a source of great, often untapped power. 85% of what we think and how we behave comes from here. You can also learn self-hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy can …

  • Help with relaxation, self confidence, pain and weight control
  • Stop smoking, fears, phobias, unwanted habits, anger, limiting beliefs
  • Relieve insomnia, anxiety, stress and pain
  • Improve memory, sports and academic performance, social skills, relationships, self-belief
  • Teach self hypnosis
  • Allows you to be comfortable in your own skin
  • Support you through changes
  • Help you recognise and celebrate your unique qualities and abilities

What is Hypnotherapy?

It is the use of hypnosis by a trained therapist to facilitate desired changes by accessing the unconscious.

Unconscious Mind

Our unconscious manages sensations, movement and bodily functions. It can also communicate with every cell in the body. Scientific evidence shows that your mental processes, mental states and behaviours affect all the cells in the body – all of the time. It also sends information to and affects billions of cells throughout the body, giving us health or dis-ease according to the beliefs stored there. Your immune system is similarly influenced.

So the working and health of your body is primarily a function of your unconscious.

Is Hypnotherapy Safe?

Hypnotherapy is a partnership between you and the therapist. The only changes made are those requested by you for your own benefit.

Even in a trance state you will only accept suggestions consistent with your values and beliefs.

Hypnosis is complementary to conventional medical treatment and is a completely natural and safe way of making positive changes. There are no harmful side effects.

Self-Hypnosis

Self-hypnosis is a valuable tool for taking control. Benefits are similar to those of meditation, such as increased sense of peace and calm. It is also a powerful way of giving yourself positive, beneficial suggestions.

History

Hypnosis as we know it today was brought dramatically up to date by Milton Erickson (1930 – 80) “Patients are patients because they are out of rapport with their unconscious. They have too much programming, so much outside programming, that they have lost touch with their Inner Selves”.

According to evidence found in Indian temples and ancient Egyptian scrolls, Hypnosis has been practiced for thousands of years.
